Musings of a Rider...

Low Country Bikers Blog

I received an email about a great Blog from the Uricchio Law Firm, who runs the www.lowcountrybikers.com website, which is a good site to keep up with all things legal in the Palmetto State and Driving or Riding a Bike.  Paul "Ricky" Uricchio rides and know what issues face bikers.  Check it out....

Vet's Ride and Other Musings...

I wasn't able to make the Vet's Ride today due to other commitments, but from what I hear over 1,000 bikes rode in this great event, even though is was rainy and cold.  That is a great testament to everyone who rode today.  I am proud to call you brothers and sisters.

Forecasters say that this winter is going to be mild and dry, but you can't tell it by this weather that we have been having, can you?  This has been some pretty cold tempertures and it isn't even winter yet.

There is a Toy Run in Laurens next week, with the Red Knights.

Hope you are getting your shopping done, Christmas is right around the corner.

Hey, leave me some feedback on what you think of the site....should i keep doing this or stop the website?

12.5.11 - Blue Knights Toy for Tots Run

Great turn out for the Toys for Tots run today in Columbia, put on my the Blue Knights.  I would guess about 2,000 motorcyles turned out!  Met at the Pepsi Plant, where I think everyone that rides in Columbia showed up.....Left there and went to Colonial Life Offices over off Greystone...loaded 2 Marine Corps Deuce and a halfs....lots of toys for those in need!  Pictures are loaded here .

Columbia Vets Parade and Toy Runs

Had the opportunity to ride with the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association and the Patriot Guard Riders in the Columbia Veterans Parade.  Has about 50 bikes in all and it took awhile to get going, but had lots of opportunity to hang out with some good people.  Once we got going it was over pretty soon - but it was a great event that I enjoyed riding in.

Lots of Toy Runs across the state over the next several weeks, everyone is leathering up and staying active.  Find a Toy Run that suits you and then show up.

One of the biggest events in the Midlands is December 12, the Vets Ride from Carolina Honda to Dorn Va Medical Center.  You can check out www.vetsride.org for more information.  Always a good event with 300 plus showing up.

Clay Dixon Benefit Poker Run Ride Report

Wow!  Great ride and great weather today as I headed to Lexington to JT's on the Pond to ride in the Clay Dixon Benefit Run.  Clay is an 8 year old with inoperable brain cancer.  The ride started and ended at JT's on the Pond.  We got to ride throughout Lexington County.  There were many bikes there, I would estimate 100+.  Great live auction at the end for a good cause.  Pictures will be up later.

To bad winter is around the corner and so the number of rides will be slim, but Spring will be here before we know it!

Cool Weather and Toy Run Season

Have posted several new rides for Toy Runs - you know it is that season when the weather turns cool.  Great weather for riding, with some leather...  Also have some motorcycle shows in Greenville that I have posted may be worth checking out...

Bryan's Ride Report

Bryan's Ride at Southside Baptist Church was a smashing success!  We had 76 paid participants and raised $5500.00 for Bryan and Nikki Sexton.  Bryan has Lymphoma and is fighting a valiant fight with this disease.  This ride was our way of showing our support and we appreciate all those who came out.  We are already talking about having this ride every year for Leukemia and Lymphoma, since there is no other ride for this worthy cause.

Lot's of events the next couple of weeks as the riding season winds down.  At least now we can wear that leather that has been sitting in the closet....

Stay tuned during the winter months for updates for 2011!  If you have any comments, feel free to leave them!

Couple of Items of Interest.

Weather is looking good for October 2, 2010 for Bryan's RIde - hope the long term forecast holds.

There is a new place to eat over in Irmo, Jake's Kickstand Cafe on Broad River Road.  Need to check them out, good food.

Jack's Custom Cycles is having an Open House and Customer Appreciation Party on September 25th....

Midland Valley Biker Sunday Ride Report and ABATE Ride News

Took a trip over to Aiken this morning to attend the Midland Valley 1st Church of the Nazarenes annual Biker Sunday.....What a day!  Over 200 bikes showed up and they were not dissapointed.  Eddie B was on hand to sing praises and the congregation of the church went all out to ensure it was a success.  Started at Aiken Technical College with staging, service, and a lunch - then went on about a 50 mile ride with law enforcement escort throughout Aiken County.  Ended up at the church with Door Prizes.  If you have never been to this (this was the 6th), you need to make plans to go next year.  To see the pictures, click here.

At the same time, there was an ABATE Freedom Ride that left Chapin with over 150 bikes headed to the State House.  Unfortunately, a crazy cager went through the grass and over a curb and took out three bikers....how could this happen, with law enforcement escort and 150 bikes over a mile long????  This lady needs to be taught a lesson.  Prayers up for those bikers that were hurt.

If anyone has an update on those bikers, would appreciate it if you could leave a comment.

Motorcycle Fatalities Down This Year

Whatever we are doing, we are doing the right thing, as today it was announced motorcycle fatalities have decreased 16 percent in 2009 and this is the first time in over a decade that fatalities have declined.  Keep driving defensively and watching for those cages on the cell phones!  You can read more about this here .

Below is proof that men have been riding on two wheels since the caveman days!
